Why is it Special?

"This book presents a screenplay for an installation of two 16mm films by Stan Douglas titled “Inconsolable Memories” as well as related essays and a series of photographs taken by Douglas as research for the project. The filmic installation revolves around a group of Cuban natives and moves fluidly through the cast of characters’ past and present memories. Overwhelmingly melancholic and majestic, the photographs taken by Douglas capture the slow architectural ruins of Cuba from a sweeping cinematic perspective. This book was published to coincide with the exhibition of “Inconsolable Memories” at the Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha and the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, Vancouver."
