Why is it Special?

SCB's publications began with a series of food and drink city maps and apps, and since 2015 we have published a series of architecture and design guide maps. The New York Times describes the maps as "part design manifesto, part urban architecture guide". SCB prints all of their titles on recycled FSC-certified paper with a carbon-neutral printer.

Modernist San Francisco Map is an original guide to the remarkable Modernist architecture across the Bay Area. This two-sided guide, features a map plotting exceptional Modernist buildings in San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and beyond, an introduction by Mitchell Schwarzer, original photographs by Jason Woods, and details of over fifty buildings by a selection of some of the most influential architects of the 20th century, including Richard Neutra, Frank Lloyd Wright, Beverley Thorne, Vernon DeMars, SOM, William Pereira, Pier Luigi Nervi and many others.

Editor Mitchell Schwarzer, is Professor of Architectural History and Chair of the Department of Visual Studies at California College of the Arts. Schwarzer is the author of a number of books about architecture in San Francisco and the Bay Area.
